The first generation 2-seat Thunderbirds were only built for 3 years and the ’57 was considered by many to be the best of the group. The first generation 2-seat Thunderbirds were only built for 3 years and the ’57 was considered by many to be the best of the group. Although Ford was answering to GM’s introduction of America’s Sports Car, the Corvette, these Thunderbirds eventually became known as the “Personal Luxury Car” with Ford placing a greater emphasis on the car’s comfort and convenience features rather than its inherent sportiness.
