When it comes to collectible musclecars, the three factors that matter most are image, pedigree and numbers matching drivetrain and this Mustang Boss 302 has it all. With a championship winning heritage and trend setting styling, the Mustang has always been at the forefront of image. The fastback shape of this example with its Grabber Blue paint and unique Boss 302 stripe package holds your attention and draws you in. The louvered Sport Slats over the back glass, the long hood with the Shaker Scoop protruding through it, the chrome Magnum 500 wheels, front chin spoiler and rear deck spoiler tell the world this is no grocery getter. Inside, the driver is greeted by bucket seats with a sports console between them to house the Hurst four speed shifter with T-handle. The rebuilt numbers matching Boss 302 V8 in this car is still paired with its rebuilt numbers matching Toploader four speed transmission. As musclecars were frequently driven hard, its a small miracle whenever one can be offered for purchase with the original drivetrain intact… like this one! When it comes to paperwork, this Boss is also well documented and most notably comes with three very seldom seen pieces from its past. Beginning with a trim inspection card from the assembly plant, this card almost never left the factory as its intent was for use during manufacture. Not retained by Ford, these inspections cards were commonly disposed of and finding one today is amazing. Another interesting bit of documentation with this Boss is the original dealers invoice. Again, not intended for the buying public, this was the invoice from Ford to the selling dealer listing Ford’s suggested prices as well as the dealers costs. Needless to say, this was a document the dealer did not provide to the customer. This Boss also comes with not one but TWO original build sheets which were used during assembly by the line employees to know which equipment went on each car. Although many of these sheets left the factory, few survive. Other paperwork includes an owner’s manual and Ford safe driving guide. An excellent running Boss 302 with detailed engine bay, power steering, power front disc brakes and am radio with 8 track round out the list of features on this 1970 Mustang. When it comes to investing properly in a collectible musclecar, this Boss 302 is a very smart choice.
