Offered here is a unique and rare piece of automotive history from the Shay Motor Company. Using a fiberglass shell, these remarkable knockoffs are reported to have mainly used Pinto underpinnings for chassis. Slow assembly and factory closure meant low production and as such, approximately 200 were made and estimates are that100 may still exist. Offered here is a unique and rare piece of automotive history. Many people are aware of Harry Shay and the Ford Model A replica he produced in the early 80’s. Very few however, know that he also created a small run of replica Thunderbird roadsters. Using a fiberglass shell, these remarkable knockoffs are reported to have mainly used Pinto underpinnings for chassis. While initial production estimates and public interest ran high, slow assembly and factory closure meant the Shay Thunderbird never met those lofty goals. As such, approximately 200 of these were ever made and it has been estimated that around 100 might still be in existence.
