The all-new 1960 Dodge was shaped for the space age, from an elaborate front bumper/grille combo to high-flying, ‘dynamically balanced integral fins’ and ‘jet-pod’ tail lamps. The “top of the line” Polara series was offered in a full range of body styles, including hardtops, sedans, convertible and the dramatically-styled hardtop wagon. Unibody construction, new for all Dodge models claimed to be ‘twice as strong and twice as quiet as ordinary body-on-frame construction’.
This car is equipped with the high performance 383 ci “Ram Induction” V8, featuring two opposed four barrel carburetors attached to 30″ long intake tubes. These tubes create a sonic resonance, speeding up the air/fuel mixture into the engine which increases horse-power and torque tremendously. More popular in the Chrysler letter cars, very few of these engines made their way into regular production Dodges.
Finished in Azure blue, it’s furnished with matching blue cloth/vinyl bucket seats, the drivers’ side being power and both having a swivel feature for ease of entry & exit. A futuristic dash ensemble is complemented by an extraordinary steering wheel partiallly finished in clear acrylic with silver flecks. Options include: pushbutton Torqueflite automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, AM radio and Kelsey Hayes wire wheels with wide white walls. Beautifully restored in & out, just as nice underneath as on top, no disappointments. Nothing less than magnificent!
