By 1970, GM had finally lifted its corporate limitations, allowing the newly enlarged GM big-block engines to be added to its mid-sized models. For Chevrolet, the ultimate result was the Chevelle SS with the 454 cubic inch LS6 package. Intended for Super Stock drag racing competition and street supremacy, the LS6 Chevelle was exemplified by the legendary Briggs Chevrolet SS/EA car of 1970-71, which set the SS/EA record at 11.33 seconds, eventually posting a low E.T. of 11.05 seconds in the quarter-mile. Meanwhile, stock LS6 Chevelles were capable of brutal acceleration, with quarter-mile times in the high 13-second range, from the showroom floor!

The 33,000-mile 1970 Chevelle SS 454 offered here is a very fine example of the LS6 legend, with a complete, frame-off restoration, presented in immaculate condition. The car retains its complete, matching numbers original drivetrain, including the LS6 454 cubic inch engine with 450 horsepower, backed by an M40 Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 transmission and a Posi-Traction rear end. Correct black SS stripes, a Cowl Induction hood, and SS wheels with period correct Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 white-letter tires enhance the Cranberry Red Chevelle. The interior features black upholstery and a center console with a floor shifter, and options include power steering and power front disc brakes. Best of all, this Chevelle SS is well documented with its build sheet, the original bill of sale, and the original Protect-O-Plate.

This incredible example represents the absolute peak of Chevrolet muscle cars. The Chevelle LS6 is a rare find at auction, and it is rarer still with full documentation and matching numbers.
