This beautiful Merc Convertible has been treated to a body-off-the frame restoration in California and many custom touches were applied to the car at that time, including a major re-work of the power convertible top which was chopped 3 inches. The goal was not only to chop the top 3 inches, but to make it completely functional and Al spent a whole winter accomplishing this difficult task. The car is powered by a 1953 Mercury engine with a 4 inch crankshaft, 60 over pistons, aluminum heads, 4 barrel intake, headers and dual exhaust. The 3-speed manual transmission sends power back to a Columbia 2-speed rear axle and the car rides on wide whitewall tires mounted on 14 inch General Jumbo wheels. Steering is provided by way of a beautiful and rare ’55 Mercury “deluxe” steering wheel. The rust-free body was refinished in Orange California and the cloth top and custom leather upholstery was stitched up by Orange Auto Upholstery. The radio, clock, factory gauges and power top all function properly.
