First year for the restyled and soon to be highly praised “Fox platform” Mustangs, Befitting the runaway sales success of the new third generation of Mustang, it was selected to pace the 1979 Indy 500. Of the nearly 370,000 Mustangs produced for 1979, just slightly over 10,000 were equipped as highly desirable Pace Car Editions. This one is even more exclusive by virtue of its 302 cubic inch 8 cylinder engine with 4 speed manual transmission. Only 2402 were ever made to this specification and as such they are much more desirable than the 4 cylinder turbo editions. A former South Carolina car, it shows no rust and all the mechanicals are up to date. The AC blows cold and the factory tires and rims are still with the car as are the original window sticker and owner’s manual. A rare and highly collectible Mustang!
