In 1946, Ford of Canada created separate sales networks for its Ford and Lincoln/Mercury divisions. When they created the Monarch and Meteor sub-brands, Ford of Canada introduced trucks to the Mercury division. In 1948, upon the introduction of the Ford F series, Mercury began the use of the “M” prefix for Mercury. Designed and built for the Canadian market, the Mercury offered here has been tastefully transformed into a custom cruiser and the original flathead engine has been replaced by a 325 cubic inch 1957 Dodge D500 Hemi engine, and along with the addition of an automatic overdrive transmission, p/steering, front power disc brakes, it is now a lot of fun to drive. Further enhancements include new radial www tires, Dodge front clip, 9 inch Ford rear end with dummy quick-change axle cover, new exhaust, tilt steering column, gauges and am/fm radio. This is an older restoration and all 4 fenders have been replaced with fiberglass units at that time. The truck also sports the deluxe windshield chrome and hood side moldings as well as a wood cargo bed. Overall, this Mercury has a very good appearance but it should be noted that upon closer examination, both passenger side fenders exhibit some paint blemishes and there are some other minor paint chips evident. Upon inspection, the truck started right up and ran well and would make a great vehicle for cruise nights or trips to the ice cream shop.
