Photos and condition report prepared by CCP Auctions
It is generally known that 4,475 RPO LS6 options were sold for all combined body styles in 1970, however Chevrolet’s records were destroyed long ago so there is no way of knowing how many LS6 Convertibles were actually produced. Based on known percentage breakdowns, some have “estimated” production numbers of less than 100, but again, there is no way to come up with an accurate figure.
The Chevelle presented here, refinished in Tuxedo Black with White stripes, was formerly owned by baseball legend Reggie Jackson. The car is equipped with a 454 cubic inch V8 producing 450 horsepower coupled to a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4-Speed Transmission delivering all that horsepower to a 12-bolt posi-traction rear axle. Further enhancements include power steering, power disc brakes, power top, Delco AM/FM radio, Rally Wheels with F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval tires, cowl induction hood and tach & gauge package to monitor all the vitals. The laser straight body has been professionally refinished and the paint has been scuffed and polished to a glass-like lustre. The chrome, convertible top and the interior are of the same quality and the engine starts right up and runs great with a bark of authority from the tailpipes. This example is undocumented but the engine pad displays the car’s matching VIN number and the engine code is CRV which decodes as an LS6 engine with manual transmission. One of the most desirable muscle cars of all time!
