Ford Motor Company introduced the Thunderbird in 1955 to compete with GM’s Corvette and was the first 2-seat automobile produced by Ford since 1938. It was an instant success, however the 2-seat design was only kept for 3 years. The example offered here can best be described as a nice driver, that can be driven anywhere without the fear of getting caught in the rain or worrying about the odd stone chip. The car is in good overall condition with acceptable paint in what can be described as “driver quality”. The rest of the car including chrome and interior fall into the same level of quality, including some minor glass scratches and the car is just waiting to be taken out on the open roads to allow the driver to have a whole lotta fun.
This early 2-seater Bird seems to run well and comes equipped with automatic transmission, engine dress-up kit, Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels, www tires, power seat, backup lamps, porthole hardtop and black soft top. Inspection of the undercarriage revealed solid floor pans and frame rails leading us to believe that this car possibly originated in the south.
