Offered here is a surviving example of one of the rarest and most desirable cars offered by Ford. Available for just a short time these “Glasstops” had a unique tinted plexiglass section in the roof. Since most buyers preferred a fully open convertible or a regular steel roof, these cars were produced in very low numbers. In the case of this Meteor Rideau, it is reported to be just 1 of only 385 built making this one of the rarest Fords ever produced. The paint looks presentable from a distance but exhibits some issues upon closer examination, with numerous chips, bubbles and touchups evident along with some surface texture. The undercarriage has been undercoated and there is evidence of repairs to the underbody sheet metal as well as the bottom of the doors. The chrome is also showing it’s age throughout. The windshield and both left & right door glass have been replaced. The drivers side vent window glass is showing significant signs of delamination. The interior is a step above the paint and chrome in terms of quality and actually presents well with no noticeable flaws in the seat upholstery or door panels. The carpets are very nice but there is a very small tear in the headliner. Power is provided by a smooth-running V8 coupled to a manual 3 speed with overdrive. These Canadian Mercury 255 cubic inch engines are known as the “Last Flathead” by fans. An older restoration that presents very well, this Glasstop has the correct firewall chassis plate and runs and drives very well. This is an amazing opportunity to own a very rare and highly coveted Canadian-only Rideau Glasstop as it will be offered at NO RESERVE!
