In 1946, Chevrolet was the first to resume production of the automobile Post War. With many characteristics of model from the last full year of production, 1941, yet with enough changes to be a stand alone "fresh face". One of the most unique features of the 1946 model would be the hood emblem, a one year only "V" design representing V for Victory after WWII. This example has seen an outstanding restoration both aesthetically and mechanically. This car was a one familly owned Chevrolet for most of its life. Showing very low original miles of just 16,300, it was stored in the hay mow of the family barn in Tennessee. It was rescued by a long time Senior Vintage Chevrolet Club of America director who restored it to show winning condition.
With laser straigtht, original panels refinished in the "as ordered" Tuxedo Black, the car presents today as absolutely stunning. As a Fleetmaster, it is a top of the line model and being a Sports Coupe means it is also boasting extraordinary styling and design to flatter that top line trim. Fabulous, original bodyside mouldings, stainless window surrounds, chromed trunk hinges, stone guards and lower rocker mouldings are all in place. The chrome on this example is flawless including the deluxe hood ornament, unique (one year only) grille, bumpers, and accessory bumper guards with very rare, rear folding, third bumperette.
As a Sports Coupe, this example was delivered new with a lavish deluxe interior which has been restored to "Day One" new condition and authenticity. The Deluxe Interior included wood grain dash, wood grain window garnish mouldings and a highly detailed dash featuring the last of the art-deco plastic designs and all in stunning condition. It features a period correct radio with original antenna, dash clock and an underseat heater. The centerpiece of the interior must surely be the very rarely seen Deluxe Steering Wheel in immaculate condtion. All upholstery including headliner, seats, carpet and doors have been professionally and accurately restored.
Mechanically, the car has been fully addressed including a rebuld of the oringinal inline six cylinder engine. This Fleetmaster retains the three speed manual transmission with original vacuum powered shift assist. The engine and engine bay detail is outstanding.
This rare and ultra-low production Chevrolet is a truly incredible example that is ready for car touring caravans or weekend cruises as well as any concour's event or auto club function where it will be sure to do the new owner proud.
