The 1969-1970 Boss 302 Hi-Po engine was created for the SCCA’s 1969 Trans-Am road racing series. It was available in the Boss 302 Mustangs of 1969-70 and this unique small-block engine featured a thin-wall high nickel content block casting. It differed substantially from the regular 302’s with 4-bolt mains, screw in freeze plugs, and heads using a canted valve design. And where did the name “Boss” come from? A staffer at Ford was asked what project he was working on, he replied “the boss’s car” because the project was a secret.
Well there is no secret about the Boss offered here as it is documented by a Marti report which outlines the car’s configuration as it rolled off the assembly line. It was built in Medium Blue Metallic paint with Medium Blue vinyl bucket seat interior, 4-speed close ratio manual transmission, rear deck spoiler, sport slats, folding rear seat, power steering and am radio. The car remains this way today and is in good-to-excellent overall condition, in what can be described as better than just driver quality but not top level concours condition. The paint is driver quality and the chrome is generally in excellent condition. The undercarriage has been refinished and detailed, and the body is excellent. Interior could use some minor attention as the door panel arm rests should be refinished and the remote mirror toggle is broken. Some minor scratches are evident in the side glass.
A great example that could easily be elevated to the next level.
