This Camaro left the assembly plant in 1970 as a Z/28 with the LT1 350 V8 with solid lifters and a Muncie four speed manual transmission. The restoration receipts total $164,900 bringing this Z/28 into the unbelievable state in which it currently exists. Since this over the top restoration, this Z/28 has been carefully maintained and kept in a climate controlled storage. One of the rarest and most highly detailed Z/28s to be found anywhere.
With a production run that started so late that many enthusiasts refer to all 1970 Camaros as 70 1/2 models, any Camaro from this year is an uncommon car. However, there are a few options that can make one a true rarity and this is just such a car. This 1970 Daytona Yellow Camaro left the assembly plant in 1970 as a Z/28 with the stellar performance LT1 350 V8 with solid lifters and a Muncie four speed manual transmission. The owner believes that this car is one of the very rare COPO 9796 cars. In 1970, the Trans-Am racing series was red hot and each automaker wanted to win it desperately. Wanting to use the taller and more effective spoiler of sister division car, the Firebird, Chevrolet quickly created COPO 9796 to get the minimum number required to qualify the part for racing. The very extensive restoration performed on this Z/28 when it was in the care of the original owner’s family, has led all to believe it to be a COPO Camaro. The restoration itself was an exercise in authenticity that few cars enjoy. The restoration receipts total $164,900 bringing this Z/28 into the unbelievable state in which it currently exists. Since this over the top restoration, this Z/28 has been carefully maintained and kept in a climate controlled storage. This is one of the rarest and most highly detailed Z/28s to be found anywhere.
